It uses reviewed news reporting, public agency releases, park and lifeguard information, and other traceable public sources to identify reported drowning and water-related incidents. It is not an official or complete surveillance registry and does not include confidential hospital, EMS, dispatch, or medical-record data. Later coroner, medical examiner, or agency findings are used to reconcile records when they become publicly available.
